Parisians are known for their love of jazz (and Poe--but that's another story). They really "get it" when it comes to music. The opera audience for the Marriage of Figaro was genuinely moved by the performance and reacted with uproarious applause and endless but heartfelt "bravos." The audience at the jazz club was even more enthusiastic--clapping and stomping in unison at the end until the band came out and played four! more songs in encore. They were crazy for the music.
